Polynucleotides

What are Polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides are one of the most advanced skin-regenerating treatments in aesthetic medicine. Unlike fillers that add volume or toxins that freeze movement, polynucleotides work by restoring skin quality from within—stimulating the body’s natural ability to heal, hydrate, and regenerate.

They are natural, biocompatible molecules made from purified fragments of DNA—most often derived from salmon or trout sperm due to their close similarity to human DNA. In aesthetic medicine, they are used as injectable skin boosters to stimulate tissue regeneration, repair, and deep hydration.

How do they work?

Once injected into the skin, polynucleotides:

  • Stimulate fibroblasts to produce more collagen and elastin

  • Enhance cell turnover and tissue repair

  • Improve microcirculation and oxygenation in the skin

  • Reduce inflammation and oxidative stress

  • Deeply hydrate by binding water molecules in the skin

This makes them a powerful option for rebuilding skin structure, especially in areas showing signs of aging, sun damage, or acne scarring.

What happens during the treatment?

Polynucleotide treatments are safe, non-surgical procedures designed to rejuvenate and regenerate the skin.

Here’s what to expect during your session:

 1. Cleansing & Preparation

Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed to remove any makeup, oil, or impurities. A topical numbing cream is usually applied to ensure comfort during the treatment.

 2. Precise Injections

Using very fine meso-needles or a microneedling device, small amounts of the polynucleotide solution are injected into the targeted areas—such as the face, under-eyes, neck, hands, or areas with scarring or stretch marks.

This may feel like a series of small pricks or light pressure, but most clients find it painless or very tolerable, especially with numbing.

3. Absorption & Activation

Once injected, the polynucleotides begin working immediately, stimulating fibroblasts, enhancing collagen production, and encouraging cellular repair and hydration from within.

 4. Post-Treatment Care

After the treatment, there may be mild redness, swelling, or small bumps (like mesotherapy papules), which typically subside within 24–48 hours.

You’ll be advised to avoid makeup, intense heat (like saunas), and strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours post-treatment to allow your skin to recover and absorb the product fully.

Is the Brand Important in Polynucleotide Treatments?

While brand reputation does matter, what truly determines your results is a combination of the Quality of the ingredients and the Expertise of the injector.

       High-quality polynucleotides should be:

  • Highly purified (to reduce risk of reactions)

  • Biocompatible and stable in the skin

  • Free of unnecessary additives or harsh preservatives

Reputable brands like Nucleofill,Vitaran, Lumi eyes and Ami Eyes  have been clinically tested, so they’re safe and effective when used properly.

The expertise of the injector is the most important factor

  • Why? Because even the best product:

  • Won’t give great results if it’s injected incorrectly

  • Could cause bruising, bumps, or waste if placed too shallow or too deep

  • Might not be as effective if the wrong technique is used for your specific skin concern

  • An experienced injector knows:

  • The correct depth and placement

  • How to tailor the treatment to your skin type, concern, and age

  • Whether to combine polynucleotides with microneedling, RF, or peels for optimal outcomes

So Which Matters Most?

Think of it like this:
A premium serum works best in the hands of a skilled aesthetician who knows exactly how to apply it. The same goes for injectables—ingredient quality and injector skill go hand-in-hand.

If you had to choose, always prioritize expertise, then ask about the products they use and why.

Results and Frequency

You will notice  a gradual improvement over 1–3 weeks after the first session.

Typically a course of 3–4 sessions, spaced 4 weeks apart is recommended. Maintenance should be done every 3–6 months depending on skin condition and goals.
